History

Our Logo

During the treatment period for my breast cancer, I spent much time thinking about a logo for the Foundation. Symbols having significance matter to me! Thus, I use to draw and design a variety of sketches representing the two very strong emotions I experienced all during this battle. The two words: Tears and Hugs. These words kept standing out in my mind. One evening, I was flipping a purple ribbon into different positions and Viola!

The second image to the left represents tears; while the third image, "stretched arms" represents hugs. These emotions permeate life from the initial diagnoses to recovery and cure. And yet these emotional reactions occur as a result of different triggers. In the beginning, tears just fall - hugs insulate - and at the end of one's medical treatments - tears are of joy, acccomplishment, achieving a goal - completing treatments - and hugs feel so good to verify - "You did it!! Yes, still here, still alive to move on."

Our Ribbon

So, purple is what the Foundation's original shirt ribbon was. Then, upon a visit to my oncologist, he shared how purple was used by pancreatic cancer. Immediately, my mind started revising our pin. On the way home, the vision appeared and I put a pink stripe right down the path of a purple ribbon. It was perfect, the areas to represent the three distinct components to the Foundation's mission.

Each band in our ribbon, as seen in the 4th image to the left, carries alot of significance. The outer purple band represents education and awareness; the middle pink band represents research and eradication of breast cancer; and the inner purple band represents continued support to the Sullivan Center for Breast Health, a comprehensive facility for all.

The Foundation has maintained a handmade production of these pins - with a variation of materials and color.
